About Me
My name is Carlos, I'm a Computer Engineering student, VR enthusiast, and Amateur Photographer. I create SlimeVR full body trackers and take Macro and Nature photos.
You can check out some of what I do by exploring this page and taking a look at the sections of it using the navigation bar on the left.
Trackers
What are my trackers?
My trackers are based on the SlimeVR project, an open source IMU-based full body tracking solution that aims to make full body motion tracking easier to access. I design and make my own trackers for use in full body tracking supported games such as VRChat and Blade & Sorcery.
How SlimeVR works, its Benefits, and Disadvantages
There are several full body tracking solutions, which mainly fall into three categories: IMU-based, Base-Station tracked, and Camera based. IMU-based full body tracking solutions work by estimating the position of your body using inverse kinematics and some clever math. SlimeVR Trackers connect to your WiFi and pass their tracking data to a SlimeVR server hosted on a nearby phone or computer which then can pass that data to SteamVR or OSC.
Base-Station tracked trackers use external base stations set up at the corners of your room to get the exact position and rotation of your trackers in 3d space.
Camera based tracking solutions include methods such as Viso or Kinect. Viso builds a skeleton of your body based on the video from your phone, while kinect builds a skeleton with a combination of color video feed, ir video feed, and a depth video feed.
The following table will compare SlimeVR Tracking to Base Station Trackfing and Viso. You can hover over text with an asterisk (*) in the table to see more information.
SlimeVR | Base Station* | Viso* | |
---|---|---|---|
Accuracy* | Not exact, prone to drift | Exact | Relatively inaccurate, cannot handle fast movements |
Occulsion* | Not affected by occlusion | Prone to occlusion in some cases | Extremely prone to occlusion |
Battery life* | 12+ hours* | 7 hours* | Depends on phone's battery life |
Platforms* | PC and Standalone* | PC only | PC and Standalone* |
It is worth noting that SlimeVR trackers typically only work on 2.4ghz networks, and only on networks with no captive portal. This means that SlimeVR DOES NOT WORK on the wifi of most colleges, universities, or other educational institutions. If you live in a college dorm room or any other place where WiFi will have a captive portal, you will have to either buy a personal router for VR, or host an access point from your computer using Windows's built in WiFi hotspot feature.

Q&A
Why did you make this site?
I made this site since I plan on selling my trackers and need to provide people a resource showing them off.
I'm having issues with my trackers. Where can I go to get help with them?
You can contact me for help with trackers, or check out the SlimeVR common issues page for help with common issues.
